Ambassador Timken Launches “Windows on America” Initiative in Duesseldorf

Ambassador Timken Launches “Windows on America” Initiative in Duesseldorf

June 20, 2006.
At a press conference at Duesseldorf airport on June 20, Ambassador William R. Timken Jr. launched a new exchange initiative of the U.S. Mission in Germany designed to enable minority students to experience first-hand school and family life in the U.S. The first group to travel to the U.S. consisted of ten students from a secondary school (Hauptschule) in Duesseldorf who will be visiting Washington, D.C., New York and Des Moines, Iowa. Ambassador and Mrs. Timken and U.S. Consul General George Knowles encouraged the students to maximize their opportunity for a life-altering experience as they were boarding their flight. The “Windows on America” program represents a successful example of public-private partnership, made possible by the private sector in North Rhine Westphalia.
