Dialogue on Legal Aspects of the War on Terrorism

November 20, 2007.
Speaking on "Legal Challenges of Terrorism: U.S. Experience" at a November 20 conference at Muenster University Law School, Consul General Matt Boyse explained the rationale behind U.S. government actions, the debates, and the evolution of the U.S. approach since 9/11. Sharing the podium with MdB Winfried Nachtwei (B90/Greens) and law professors, the CG pointed out that the U.S. is not unique in amending its laws to account for new terrorist threats and that the U.S. domestic debate over the proper balance between protecting civilian populations and civil liberties mirrors that in many other countries.
