Native American Game Lacrosse Becomes Popular in NRW
September 22, 2007.
With the growth of interest in Germany in lacrosse in the last 15 years, Consul General Matt Boyse on September 22 visited the Duesseldorf Antlers for a friendly game against the team from neighboring Maastricht, Netherlands. The sport, the earliest mention of which dates to the 16th century, was originated by Native Americans and has in the last 100 years developed an enthusiastic international following. Lacrosse has become particularly popular in North Rhine Westphalia following the return of German students from academic and other exchange programs in the United States.
