DCM John Koenig Visits School in Gladbeck
November 23, 2007.
On November 23, Deputy Chief of Mission John M. Koenig engaged nearly 100 students at the Heisenberg High School in Gladbeck in a lively discussion of German-American relations and U.S. foreign policy. The high school seniors, many of them with diverse backgrounds, welcomed the opportunity to meet a high-ranking American diplomat and had many questions relating to the Middle East, Turkey, the Kosovo and also the prospects for peace in Iraq. School principal Heidrun Schuette-Staendeke and teacher Banu Arslan, who recently participated in a U.S. information tour on "Integration of Ethnic Minority Students," hosted the visit and appreciated the opportunity for a high-level transatlantic dialogue.
