The 2006 German national champion Solingen Alligators again made it into the finals ("World Series") of the German Baseball League this year. Their hopes of a repeat performance ended on August 23, however, as the Mainz Athletics defeated the Alligators 3 games to 1. As with all German baseball teams, foreign players, including from the United States, are permitted to play for the Alligators. Consul General Matt Boyse (left in the picture) threw out the first ball on a magnificant day, with a genuine baseball atmosphere, which included the customary "seventh inning stretch," with spectators singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," in English.
