Richard Alba, Professor of Sociology and Public Policy at State University of New York (Albany), spent two hours at the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry for Generations, Family, Women and Integration in Düsseldorf on December 9 discussing patterns of adaptation and assimilation of immigrants in the U.S. His partners were staff members of the ministry who involved the American expert in a spirited comparative debate of different approaches toward integration in both countries.
