July 4th Reception At NRW Landtag Celebrates German-American Friendship
June 24, 2009.
The Consulate marked Independence Day early this year, celebrating with the NRW parliament in Duesseldorf on June 24 as a “Parliamentary Evening.”  In her welcome address to the ca. 600 guests, Landtag President Regina van Dinther stressed that the event further strengthens the state's excellent relationship with the United States and thanked departing Consul General Matt Boyse and Commercial Office director Ed Fantasia for their exemplary contributions to the transatlantic partnership.  In his remarks, the CG praised the outstanding cooperation with the great number and variety of partner institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia.  In a "departing message" after three years in NRW, he commented that neither country can afford to take the bilateral relationship for granted and must give it continued close attention and strong support.  The evening also featured a panel discussion, a segment by American comedian John Doyle, as well as musical performances by the Miss Behavin’ (Country) Band, Henry’s Jazzmen, and "Elvis."  American mezzo-soprano Stephanie Woodling sang the American and the German national anthems, flanked by a U.S. army color guard.  | Photo Gallery
